I still play a lot. It's really fun! There are even some free places to play online, which is how I practice.

I play at FNM most weeks. I pretty much only play standard and an occasional draft/sealed tournament. Playing a Green/red devotion deck in standard right now. 9-2 against Abzan :)

I play it. Sort of.

Only online though. With the official client.

There's no point whatsoever in trying to play the physical version: where I'm at, it's literally impossible. The cards arent even sold anywhere remotely near here, and none of my friends care about games like these, they're too busy playing Generic Shooter #195763 or Nonsensical JRPG/Movie #20675 on the 360 or PS3.

I used to play it, but over the years I played less and less often, until I basically quit for good. I still have a huge collection of cards, and I'm reluctant to get rid of them in case I end up finding a new group to play with, but from the time I've spent playing in tournaments, I've found that I simply can't process things quickly enough to be competitive in that sort of setting.

Back when it was just me and a few friends playing kitchen table MtG, I was actually an alright player, and the slower pace of play wasn't a big deal. Playing in tournaments however burned me out, and almost completely turned me off the game.

If I had the processing speed and short-term memory of an NT, chances are I'd still be playing, and I'd be a fairly decent player, but I'm hugely lacking in both of those areas.

The frustrating thing is that I practically grew up around the game, as my dad's been playing for over 20 years. He's a fairly decent player, and the way he can play just boggles my mind. He takes fairly long turns, but he manages to do so much stuff in one turn with the decks he builds that I simply can't keep track of it all. By comparison, I take fairly long turns too, but I do barely anything during my turns because I'm too busy trying to make sense of everything.

Ugh, MtG is such a depressing topic for me, because I used to enjoy it, but now I feel like I can't play because I'm too slow for it and I lack real-life friends to play it with. Whenever I do play, it just makes me realize what my limitations are.

Sorry for the downer post.

Biggest advice: DONT play in tournaments until you are extremely experienced. Most tourney players know *alot* about the game and tend to keep very close track of the always-shifting meta. Decks that arent made to deal with that are almost guaranteed to be defeated. Your deck needs to be very efficient to stand up to those, and just doing casual play every now and then wont produce that. It's not a matter of you being "slow" or anything.

Of course, it's hard to play it often when there isnt even anyone around to play it... is why I just stick to playing online. I haaaaaaaate having to go to alot of trouble just to find opponents. It's like, if I wanna play it now, I wanna play it *now*, not tomorrow or next week.

The main reason I used to play in tournaments is because my dad would attend booster drafts almost every weekend, and I'd join him just as an excuse to get out of the house. At the time, I had just recently moved to a different town, and my old group were all still living in my old town which was several hours away.

I'm in a different city now, and the nearest card shop is about an hour away, though I'm finally in a large enough centre that I actually have a local place to buy cards from, in my case Walmart. It's still a long walk from my house though, so I'm hoping to get a bike so I can go to that part of town more often. I have no idea how I'm supposed to make new friends to play with though, because I've been out of high school for a looooong time, and I don't have a job either.

Anyway, I was assessed by a neuropsychologist a few months ago, and I did rate poorly in terms of processing speed and short term memory, so I wouldn't be surprised if those things would affect my performance.

Thanks for the advice though. :)
