Months ago I applied to Appen Butler Hill and they recently got back to me and asked me to take a couple of tests which I passed. I was then given a contract and supposedly entered into the system. I am eager to try this as I think I could earn some extra money. However I cannot even get my login to work.
Has anyone done this kind of work and what has your experience been? And, also, what is crowdsourcing? Is it like surveys?

I've never heard of that service, but, I've been doing crowdsourcing for years.

Amazon's Mechanical Turk can be a good one, but, sometimes it's tough to find decent hits.
On occasion you'll get surveys, but, mostly it's kind of data scrubbing or collection.
Some of them are transcribing business cards or approving/denying photos for appropriate content, or adding word tags to photos... random stuff. ;) These gigs are how I paid for baby clothes and college textbooks, lol.

iPoll does surveys, on the pc or phone app.

GigWalk does data collection, some of which is photo taking.
Microsoft hooked up with GigWalk last year to pay something like $15 to photograph restaurants inside and out that would show up in Bing. If you went to one bustling neighborhood you could make a couple hundred dollars in a day. BUT, hits that pay that well are a little on the rare side.
I didn't do those because of the crowds, but, I did do a couple in movie theaters and starbuck's... they ask you to take a photo of something inside to prove you're there, and then you rate things like noise level, cleanliness, etc. oh, a couple times I had to record the noises.

I'd be interested to hear about some other crowdsourcing companies people have used successfully.
I used to do one a few years ago... Greensomethingorother... but, they switched from cash rewards to a point system. ~smh~ Not as motivating.

Thanks! I'm glad to know you have had some luck with this. I'm not sure I am able to find any other employment so I hope it works out.

No problem, happy to help. I was leery getting started. If you do sign up with Amazon Mechanical Turk, join the forum. People talk about the best and worst hits to do and other crowdsourcing gigs there, so you may be able to find more.

I know I could've made more money spending my time waiting tables or something, but, this way, I can do it through my phone or laptop and don't have to worry about invoicing people etc lol.

The chain mails from petitions.

And I also want to start a farm for charity. Crowdfunding is my cheapest option

Well I finally got logged in. Had to contact support three times, but I refused to give up. And I got my first "hitapp" which was to judge the degree of adult website content. Goodness gracious! I had no idea of the stuff on the internet. lol But I made my first cents, so I'm happy.

Great!

  Yeah, I found some of the hits to be... um, not exactly informative, but, certainly eye-opening. I only take those when my kids aren't around.

Yeah, I found some of the images have stuck with me and are making me depressed. I'd prefer to have been unaware.
But, I have another question: In the UHRS "my report" it says that I have 21 hits, with 20 valid ones. Does this mean that they are checking my answers still? If so, what's the point of my doing it?
I think I will avoid the adult content ones from now on. But so far I haven't been offered much. It just says no hitapps available.

Yes, the people who order the hits can spot check the answers and accept or reject them. You sort of have a ranking, based on time you've been doing it and ratio of accepted/rejected gigs. The better your numbers get, the more hits will be available to you and the less likely your answers will be checked closely.

I haven't been on in awhile, so I don't know what the current workload looks like.
