Mine is movies and most people I talk to think that's really cool! They eventually get tired of it, unfortunately, because I talk about it non stop. I've made a few friends because of my extensive movie trivia knowledge and it's kind of like a 'party trick.' Does anyone else have NT approved (I hate saying that) special interests?

My interests (genealogy, history, law and politics) aren't exactly entertaining in and of themselves. But, I am my family's and friends' walking Wikipedia when it comes to filling in their memory lapses. I am somewhat convinced that they do it to watch me explain a topic in detail. It feels very much like Sheldon Cooper, thusly:

Leonard: Alright this is cruel, we better let him finish before his head explodes.

Howard: Alright Sheldon, why is tapioca?

Sheldon: Tapioca-is-extracted-from-the-root-of-the-plant-Manihot-Esculenta. Due-to-a-high-concentration-of-cyanide,-it-is-poisonous-in-its-raw-form-and-lethal-if-prepared-improperly.

Raj: Feel better now?

Sheldon: It-is-also-indigenous-to-Brazil,-as-is-the-Cocoa-Bean,-from-which-we-get-chocolate,-the-best-pudding. And-you-promised-you-wouldn?t-do-that-anymore!

Fashion. A lot of NTs are jealous of my clothes.

Well I am pretty into metal/rock music which plenty of NTs and others find cool, I also like industrial/electronic music though there's some I've heard I don't care much for.

Also I have a bit of special intrest in cannabis, like to the extent of reading up on it, watching documentaries finding out everything I can about it and yes smoking it....and well obviously some NTs are also into that, though maybe not the having me talk their ear off about everything I know about it.

Okay, so I used to have TV shows as my special interest. More specifically, shows like Survivor and Big Brother. Initially people thought this was somewhat interesting and I think they felt like they could carry on a conversation with me about it, but then they eventually grew tired when all I would want to talk to them about was my opinions about what was going on. Honestly, I lost a couple friends this way because they were interested in Big Brother and Survivor, but you know, to a normal degree and it started grating on them.

Now I have a special interest in certain periods of history and I don't ever feel compelled to discuss it with others, because I feel like there are no opinions and such to discuss. Nobody would find it interesting anyways haha.

I am into driving race cars, hard rock music, playing and working on guitars. While that may be the profile of a popular person none of it is making me cool.

Doctor Who is pretty popular these days. I've been a fan for years. My DW collection is huge and just keeps getting bigger. When I sit on the couch in the loungeroom I have to take down my DW cushion and when I drink tea I must have it out of my TARDIS coffee mug.

Some people have found it interesting that I like physics and astronomy.

I'm a band photographer so I go to a lot of rock/punk shows and listen to music like that. I've actually got wider tastes than most people I know. I'm a music scene chameleon. I feel more at home in the local punk rock scene, but there's a retro rock scene where musicians who were in rock/grunge bands when I was a kid are still making music. I like folk and blues and hardcore too. I'm starting to appreciate some lesser known music from the 80s too. People like my varied tastes.

I can tell people think my love of Star Trek is just too geeky though.

I like MARVEL comics and I'm not really sure what people think about that. My housemate could have AS and is a huge comic book geek, so that doesn't count.

Because most people hate our PM left-wing politics seems to be the in thing. I don't know where these people were during the last government though.

I like movies too but it doesn't feel like a special interest. It's just something I've watched and loved from an early age. I'm not sure what people think about me loving sci-fi movies but then saying Hollywood just doesn't get it right. I like Canadian sci-fi mostly.

All mine make me seem like a serial killer except maybe Origami and Rubik's Cubes... People like those.

Writing novels. A lot of my classmates used to ask to see my writing if they saw me working on a novel and thought that it was "cool".

What periods of history? I also like specific ones, like the Renaissance and ancient Greece.
I try to stop myself from saying too much about my favourite things too. I mostly do facts rather than opinions of the movies and people don't really like talking purely about movie facts. I do sometimes meet people who do, for a little while. It's nice while it lasts.

Nazi Germany is the period I've really invested a lot of time in researching. I'm not one for monologing and I think I differ in that from most other aspies here from what I read, but I really do have a hard time filtering out every single little opinion and rant I have about something I like when I get involved in a conversation on it. I guess it's a good thing that history is factual and not subjective- at least for me, because I'm more interested in details of historical events instead of the character of the people involved.

My best friend has aspergers, and I find it cute when he won't stop talking about his interests. Sometimes he "serenades" me too, and he won't let me interrupt until he has finished the whole song. I think he does it on purpose sometimes because he knows I like it...

That's so great! I wish people would do that to me. I could talk about movies alllll day long, but I know people get bored. I don't understand how though, movies are so interesting!

Neat! So that's what your username refers to?

If I knew you in real life you could totally talk my ear off about it - I'm interested in it too 8) *cough cough*
