Contemporary Ethical Issues (for a school project)

Hey folks,

I'm in need of a contemporary ethical issue for a contemporary ethical report for an ethics class I'm taking. I've done some research, but I'm feeling uninspired by what I've found so far. The example report used immigration as the ethical issue.

All suggestions are welcome.

Genetic engineering by parents-to-be of their unborn child.

Privacy vs. safety in today's climate of mass shootings, violent protest, and terrorism.

Second the biological engineering idea. I halfway keep up with this technology because it could be used for both people with my disease (spinocerebellar ataxia) and autistics. If you google around you will find articles of people currently working on gene editing in humans and animals. You could easily make an argument for it as well as against it.

In general for papers, I always tried to use an unusual subject or find an unusual aspect to focus on. The professor was more likely to overlook small mistakes and give me a better grade if my paper was something they hadn’t thought of.

How about assisted suicide? That's a prominent ethical issue these days.

The Right to Die.

I don't believe, in most cases, that people should die. But other people have varying opinions on it.

Thank you, folks! I am considering doing either genetic/biological engineering or assisted suicide, so doing a bit more research on both right now. I might go with the latter because I'm majoring in a field of engineering, although it's electrical and not biological (and I forgot to mention, this ethics class is about engineering ethics, but any contemporary issue could be picked as long as it relates to a profession).

How about automation? You engineers are going to make most of humanity obsolete sooner or later.
