That's your decision. There's no need to take on identities ascibed to you by anyone, only you know the identity that suits you best.

What kind of music do you listen to?

If you listen to and are passionate about goth rock/goth punk and that sort of thing goth....though a lot of people think it means you wear black and listen to any dark music but actual gothic sub-culture relates to the goth rock generes.

As for emo that is more complex, not even sure that term really has any specific meaning, I hear at one point it specifically referred to fans of emotive hardcore or emotional hardcore or emotional punk or something of that nature...then became a weird trend and much of the bands considered 'emo' don't actually quite play the sort of music...I don't know its complicated, I just don't really see what it is supposed to be...seems like a sub-culture gone bad in a sense....hell some people just use it to mean an emotional person when originally it related to fans of a specific form of music....

Why would you want to be either one, or why do you feel you are one?

Regardless, you're better off just being yourself and doing whatever makes you both happy and comfortable.

Well it's all a commercialized lie, so if you're going to make an identity out of "goth", "emo" or whatever have you, but make sure you don't take it too personally.

I don't know I am a metalhead(avid metal fan) and still myself just the same....why does being ones self have to exclude any sort of identity label that others might share as well?
