Could a Din-i Ilahi revival solve everything?
Hi all. A while ago I was reading historical articles on Wikipedia (as I often do) and I found this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Din-i_Ilahi
Akbar promoted tolerance of other faiths. In fact, not only did he tolerate them, he encouraged debate on philosophical and religious issues. This led to the creation of the Ibādat Khāna ("House of Worship") at Fatehpur Sikri in 1575. He had already repealed the jizya (tax on non-Muslims) in 1568.
I've come to the conclusion that most people aren't going to renounce religion any time soon. If that is the case, we (the progressives) need to do what we can to nudge religion in a more peaceful and pro-intellectual direction.
Would it be possible to revive Din-i Ilahi? Could that finally end all of these silly holy wars?

Reminds me of Baha'i. Being a Unitarian Universalist it's nice to share this goal.

Overall, I've been reading a lot about the history of India lately. I find that the history of India is ignored by a lot of people.
Prior to the British Imperial period, India actually went though periods of great wealth, prosperity and knowledge. The Indus Valley Civilization was one of the earliest civilizations ever to exist. Indian mathematicians are also responsible for creating so-called "Arabic numerals", which are still used today in standard mathematics. Indian mathematicians also invented the zero and the concept of infinity.
In many periods throughout its history, India was a place of learning and religious tolerance. Let's also remember that it was the Indian army that stopped Alexander the Great, preventing him from pushing further east.
British imperialism hit India like a nuclear warhead.

Does it have something for every IQ and interest range and does it explain the history of western belief better than any one religion and potentially in more dumbed down and public ways than a western mystery or philosophic tradition?
If not then I doubt it would go anywhere.

Religion doesn't need to be dumbed down. The masses just need to smarten up.
People everywhere need to stop being stupid on purpose and using "intellectual" as a snarl word.

Intelligence isn't a choice though, and if anything you have potentially far more control over your looks if you have the money for it (ask South Koreans about that) than you do over your intelligence because there's no nip-tuck for low intelligence. This is also part of what makes doing society so difficult - ie. that people are irreconcilably different and any system that will last needs to accommodate people at every level while not creating tyranny or anarchy at one end or the other.
My only hope is anything dumbed-down enough would be structured in such a way that it were more like a lens or a tool (or set of tools) than a tribalizing story.

I understand that some people are actually neurologically disabled. I have no ill will towards them. They are usually kind people.
Most of the stupid people in the world are clearly just being stupid on purpose. That's why most dumb people are obnoxious as*holes.
I've been around people who are actually developmentally disabled. They usually don't spew fundamentalist insanity or "patriotic" mumbo-jumbo.
This lends weight to the idea that the people who spew vile garbage on TV are being dumb on purpose because our backwards society encourages this. Also, the crazy fundamentalists and patriots usually have families and full-time jobs.
Most stupidity is obviously willful.

Haven't the religionists screwed up civilization enough with their off-the-wall doctrines and their unsubstantiated beliefs?

To be fair, there are hundreds of religions in the world and only about 10 of them are ever used to justify human rights abuses.

I suppose they also like living in bad neighborhoods or off the system because they're 'ghetto' and they like it, and making bad choices - all the time - is just their 'thing'.

I think the answer is a lot easier - ie. the median IQ is 100, which means 50% of people are under that.
I also don't really think people have a grasp on what low intelligence looks like. They can be highly functional people in the general sense, they might even have very quick reflexes or high endurance (likely they have just as much brain mass), they might do great at desk jobs, but they're simply not wired for the kind of central cohesion to have philosophic insights and you can see a marked difference in their abilities to function in the world, such as hold a job, and their ability to reason on larger things where a lot of them couldn't rip their way out of what would be a wet paper bag for someone else. They also tend to thing intelligent people are 'fags', weird, they think intelligent people don't have personalities because they literally can't see or process the way a more intelligent person does (which also makes them assume a person is inferior to them and/or crazy when they're just smarter), and it's part of why we seem to have a cult worship of conformity as if it were a nearly equal stand-in for Yahweh.
It's not a corporate conspiracy, it's not a media conspiracy, its not religion, and it's not fluoride or lead in the water. What you see right now is what people are. The culture is what it is because they are the way they are. If it were different it would just be a different kind of dumb, a different kind of vulgar, and you'd have a different kind of lying going around.

Amen, bro' Darth!
That rule should apply to politics and the arts, as well.

We'd have to figure some things out about CRISPR/Cas9 really fast.

I don't like everything about the Baha'i, but I do recognize that their persecution by the Iranian government is unjust.
