(clicky)anti-cancer drug improves some symptoms in ASD
would anybody be willing to try this drug, if it makes it past mouse trials to human approval? it is called Romidepsin and it's an IV histone deacetylase blocker [used to treat Lymphoma] which, in tests so far on mice, it re-actives the Shank3 Gene which in people on the spectrum is suppressed. the effect of this gene is to improve social functioning and reduce anxiety. it is projected that the human treatment course would be multi-session with a duration of several months, with effects expected to last several years. at this point in my life i'd say no, but if I was younger and less used to being warped, i'd say yes in a heartbeat.
