Though arguably the fattest developed country? I'm also surprised with where the UK place, number 43 is lower than I expected.

Yeah, interesting. I can see that many Pacific island countries are ranked high on the list. Some Middle Eastern countries and Latin American countries, too. Could that be genetic or their diet? The USA does seem to be the fattest developed/western country. I'm surprised that Australia is the 44th. I see many morbidly obese people everywhere here.

I think it's mostly diet, sugar and fat is cheaper than healthy food.

^ True. I wonder if that's the reason why many countries near the top of the list are not developed countries.

Where I live and where I come from, healthy food is not that expensive. Eating vegetables, fruits and beans all the time will save you money.

I would not be surprised if that was the case, but I would guess that education or lack thereof is also part of the problem. In my country, studies show often that children that have higher educated parents are generally thinner. But is this because the parents teach the children how to eat better or because they have more money to spend on better food? I think that they are both two parts of the problem.

I don't know how true this is, but there was a discussion on another forum about the Pacific Island countries. Someone said that they had survived by eating small amounts of food for generations, and thus tended to have low metabolisms. When high-calorie diets, such as from the U.S., were introduced, the people gained massive amounts of weight.

That is fairly surprising to me, also Peru is 117th on the list.

I don't think this is much of victory. Those tiny Pacific islands, obesity is firmly engrained in their tribal heritage.
