Hi there,

I was wondering if any guys might be able to help out with some research I'm doing. I posted about it previously here, and I think lots of women filled it out but fewer men. Thank you so much to everyone who has already done it- the wrong planet crew have definitely contributed massively to this research project already!

I currently have 80 female participants and only 37 males! Which given the 4:1 gender ratio for autism is surprising (although the research is partly about gender so may have been more interesting to women..?). Would any guys with aspergers/autism be willing to fill out this 15 minute survey? It asks about your identity as someone with autism, as well as gender identity and a few mental well-being questionnaires. I really need to address the gender balance in the participants so far so your help would be really appreciated!

The link to the questionnaires is here: https://www.survey.bath.ac.uk/socialidentityasc

Apologies that I posted this already, but I am hoping to pick up some more male participants by posting again. Do let me know if I'm breaking any forum rules.

I was relieved there were no essay questions on the test. :)

Done. I'm a loosely male person with Asperger's who considers autism a hindrance. I'm rarely happy with myself and that is reflected in my answers. I doubt I'm alone in feeling like this.

Done. Q 13 (e) didn't make sense, but was easy to guess the intention :)

Done. Wasn't sure how to answer the questions about friends - I haven't got any except online!

I was happy to complete your questionnaire - I have posted on here before that this forum (and others like it) is potentially a rich source of data which seems to be totally ignored by the professionals.

I was a bit surprised by the emphasis on sexuality - I wasn't aware that the issue of sexuality is considered significant.

I also found it tricky to answer the questions which seemed to assume that I have a circle of friends - nothing could be further from the truth!

But the most glaring feature of the survey was the limited range of ASDs which it seemed to recognise. It seemed to concentrate on one end of the spectrum, rather than the entire list of ASDs. As it happens, I am in agreement with the idea of distinguishing between ASDs which impose severe limitations upon an individual's ability to get though the day unaided, and ASDs which operate as a life-long slow burn which sometimes leads to high levels of success, but mostly leads to a life of unrecognised struggle.

taking surveys is a useful distraction from unpleasant things.
