I'm 17 and am really socially isolated. I can't cope with school and had to drop out, I'm getting a HS diplomacy a local community college but have regular breakdowns from stress and highly doubt I could handle getting much higher education. I stim and keep trying to get a job but the only place that ever actually hired me was a fast food place. I couldn't handle the smells and texture of the oil and the speed and coordination needed to do it and quit in a week and a half.

I'm almost an adult and I don't know what to do. I don't want to stay with my dad forever, but I'm thinking that I might be able to move out if I make some money commissioning art and odd jobs with disability funds. I'm already on social security from my mom passing away but that goes away when I turn 18.

How much could I get if I can get on it? I can't find any number online.

Thanks

An adult with autism syndrome can apply for SSI or SSDI. However, SSDI is available only to those with a work history from jobs that paid Social Security taxes. For more information, see our section on SSDI requirements.
