Hey, I'm looking to learn arabic. Should be noted that I already KNOW how to read and write really good (I took arabic class in high school) but am looking to improve my vocabulary and grammer. If any of you can help I would be happy if you peeps direct me to the appropriate resources.

I'm looking for beginner texts in arabic, and their translations in english because that would speed up my learning proccess.. (instead of navigating through tiresome dictionaries) and use my hyperfocus to remember new words :)

Much obliged xD

Arabic is an interesting language.

There's "formal" Arabic, which is a literary language

Then there's "street Arabic,' which is apparently somewhat of a "different" language.

Then you have the various dialects, some of which are stated to be mutually unintelligible to each other.

Good luck in your studies!

I know, what I leared in school was mainly literary arabic and a bit of "journalistic" arabic which is sort of combo between the two. I am looking for the egyptian dialect which is the closest for what I need. If anyone can direct me to anything I'd be grateful. :P

It's more important for me to form a comversation but I want a bit of both.

I wonder if Egyptian authors sometimes write in the Egyptian dialect, rather than the literary form. Maybe you could get a gauge of it by reading them.

You could also read internet entries from Egyptian websites, especially blogs and forums.

I'll do some quick research a little later.

Thanks, I actually thought about it and what you offered is the BEST for me. But since I'd need to translate many words and I already tried Google translate (which is.... meh) I think that firstly I'll need to get my vocabulary up to a decent level. Then I'll have less words to translate hence less tedious process. I learned English the same way - Reading forums for years and looking up every word I didn't know.

Here's a website which might provide a good start:

http://egyptiandialectcourse.blogspot.com

If you don't get it immediately, just google "Learn Egyptian dialect of Arabic"
