I am just wondering what other people feel like when it comes to noises. For me it feels extremely painful, and as though I'm being ripped apart.

Noises are horrible. Its like every bad emotion and pain you can feel wrapped up in some insignificant noise. It causes stress and anxiety and anger.

I understand exactly how you feel. Its like torture.

It depends on what the noise is. If it's an incessant noise or one that I find grating (pretty much any non-intrusive noise made by another human being), then I'm likely somewhere between a bit irritated to outright irate. Then there are the other upsetting noises... Anything that's loud/abrupt and potentially recurring. The noise usually causes what I feel is a "shock" to my body initially and I begin to physically feel anxious without any accompanying worried thoughts. Sometimes these noises will also cause somewhat of an emotional flooding and I'll be in tears over the noise. Nobody IRL gets it.

For me certain noises can cause anxiety or just really irritate me. But I'm quite lucky that I'm not very sensitive (exception of certain lighting/flashing lights)

There are a lot of sounds that can be anxiety inducing for me:

Mastication, very heavy breathing, the sound of odd footsteps.

I also have lots of sounds that quite frankly are soul crushing. Sound of metal, the feel of paper if I pick it up and my nails touch it. The sound of loud bus brakes, or loud train brakes, or a plane I don't see, or beeping I didn't expect. Even typing this I get chills and an odd tingling throughout my body especially my had.

I feel irritated, claustrophobic, overwhelmed and/or distressed. It's really hard to describe.

Also noise-related stress has caused a very strange physical symptom. My tongue tastes salty and feels kinda numbish as if it were recovering from a burn. It might be a case of burning mouth syndrome. It's frustrating that even doctors simply say my tongue is just fine. I can no longer enjoy the taste of good coffee because of that.

I feel anxious and can't calm down. But loud noises don't bother me at all. I suspect it's all those years singing in a choir and performing with a band desensitized me. :) It's the small noises that bother me. You know like a hum or whine in the background, some distant lawn mowers, people hissing/whispering or rubbing against rough surfaces...etc. I have trouble understanding people's speech when there's lots of background noises.

Same here regarding an inability to understand people well over lots of background noise. I try to avoid going to restaurants and other venues that have loud music - makes it nearly impossible for me to talk to someone. I'm not a fan of TV, and if someone tries to talk to me over a blaring television, I'll usually politely inform that that I can listen to them OR the TV, but not both. I don't mind loud music at a concert, but I realize what I'm getting into on the rare occasion I go - there the noise is the point.

Noises that I find particularly grating are screaming children in restaurants, and people idly whistling. I work in a place where people like to whistle loudly at times, and it really bothers me. I feel like I'm screaming internally for them to SHUT UP!

It irritates me most because it distracts me. It "gets on my nerves" whatever that means. It's rather like it might be if every sound was louder than it is. Fairly quiet background noise seems moderately loud, moderately loud foreground noise seems painfully loud.

It feels I can't hear my own thoughts.

Painful sometimes, yes, but depending on noise, bad ones are like nails being hammered into head.

Bad ones are people whistling and radio in otherwise quiet environment like home.

I don't mind background noises in public areas in general but too many cars with the fumes and stuff (think of big wide major roads through a city, like the strand in london) make me feeling nausea-tic and tired.

Stressed out irritable, like anything annoys me, short tempered, I feel I want to scream.

I'd say that any sensory overload is like flinching when a bright light is made to shine in your eyes. You recoil.

My body's reaction to even strong smells in the detergent isle at the grocery store makes me want to get out of there as quickly as I can.

Same thing with a loud noise, whether it's for an instant, or prolonged. My whole body wants to pull away from it and get clear.

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

It feels like the noise is getting inside my brain and something goes off like a hot spark. It makes me irritable or sometimes I start to feel rage.

When I'm tired, noises are painful and make me anxious. Sometimes I may even become nauseated, if I can't get to a quieter place.

This is all very interesting. I never thought about how sensory overload to noises feels like to others. I just knew how to felt for me.
