Is eye contact painful and can you read emotions or perceive whether or not someone is being honest via their eyes? For me I can tell emotions and honesty, to some extent, via the eyes and I have a formal diagnosis. I've been badgered about this on facebook because I'm not supposed to be able to read any body language, but eyes are different than the rest of the body - in humans and animals it's how they convey emotions and intentions by how and what they look at, and unlike learned gestures it is non-arbitrary so it has lower entropy for any guesswork or possibility of falsehood. It's why eye contact is bothersome to me, at least when people lie or are rude.

For me, it's "sometimes I get right, sometimes I get it wrong."

This is not technically accurate.

Well, it's what the one dude on facebook who keeps quoting standards in the UK at me seems to be saying. I'm agreeing with you, and the people who diagnosed me formally, but it's what's being argued at me and so I'm slightly annoyed with him. Anyhow, there are plenty of other factors and criteria even if not understanding any body language is one of them. Please do explain though.

We have varying levels of being able to read body language. It's tied to IQ, because even if we can't intuitively decode body language we can easily learn to consciously pick out patterns and often correctly match them to meanings.

It's more complicated than "I can tell emotions via eyes". I can tell sometimes tell, it depends on the person and the emotions.

I cannot handle any sort of eye-contact.
however, i am able to determing the 'base' emotions in other people (fear, sadness, anger, happyness, neutral), but i use different methods than 'eye contact'
