.....Stonewall Jackson statues."

My local news broadcast just announced that Baltimore activists are urging the mayor to remove these statues----I didn't hear what her response was.....

This is getting SOOOO out-of-hand, now----it's BEYOND RIDICULOUS----and, it's making me want to SCREAM!!

It is silly and these people should be ignored. These are the same people that burn books, we all know where that leads.

They are not much different than the totalitarian states that during formation destroyed symbols of history and culture that offended them in a politically correct push.

The problem is that people like that actually can get thier way if they screech loud and shrill enough.
Maryland is a rather liberal state so anything like that is possible.

Yep----and, they're screeching all over the COUNTRY!!

I didn't even realize that they had defaced a statue, here, in Baltimore, as well----with, you guessed it, "Black Lives Matter"; so, NOW it's getting to the point that WHITE lives DON'T matter (as in, nobody's killin' us, but, obviously, our OPINIONS / desires, don't matter).

Tell me about it----ARRRRRRRRRGH!!

I swear----if Texas wasn't so friggin' hot, I'd be on the next plane, down there, so that when they secede, I could go WITH 'em!!

I think so, TOO----and, they should start right down there in SC!! Where will it END!?!?

I'm thinking if we hadn't had all this cop killin' people business / riots in so many places, here lately, that this would've never happened. These things have been in-place HOW many years? One of those statues, here, has been there since 1904----Baltimore was a CENTRAL part of the civil war----Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner", here, for heaven's sake!!

EXACTLY!!

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this, honestly.

I am completely in agreement with removing the Confederate Battle Flag from government property (including license plates and state flags), on account of its connection to a country of traitors who fought to maintain the enslavement of "lesser" people. It can and has been construed as an endorsement of those ideals. It offends a large portion of the population. Like any religious monument, it has no place on government property.

A logical extension of this argument should be that monuments (such as these statues) to the men who fought for the CSA shouldn't be on public property, either. However, I'm not quite ready to make that leap yet. It seems like a bit of an overreach to remove these statues. At some point, we risk whitewashing history. To me, this is currently where I'd draw the line. Recognize the history, honor the men who lived it, but don't perpetuate the traitor flag by flying it on public property.

That said, I am open to arguments for either side.

Arguing semantics concerning a minority population? Your privilege is showing.

I assume the number you quote is the African-American population of the United States. That is rather short sighted of you to assume that they are the only ones offended by it, since Africans weren't the only ones enslaved. Hell, even as a Caucasian I'm offended by it.

If it were only African-Americans, that's still roughly 40 million people. I'd say that's a large enough number of people to warrant attention and respect.

I'd also like to point out that as an ASD individual, you should also fear the tyranny of the majority. We account for less than 5% of the population. If 12.6% percent is too small of a number to warrant respect, what will they do to our smaller percentage?

I've got it!
Let's ask some former slaves what they think.
There are none?
Okay, then we'll ask the sons and daughters of deceased former slaves. I guess that'd be the next Brest thing.

What, none of them stil around either?
Okay, then what about grandchildren?
No luck there either. :(

Hmmm.......
It's starting to look like manufactured offense.
Something tells me we should have known......

Even Va, W.Va., or Pa would be an improvement....

Respect is EARNED----it's not handed-out, like a dentist hands-out sugarless gum to all the good little kiddies.

I've had GREAT respect for lots of black people, all-throughout-my-life; BUT, they were people who wanted to be UNITED with everybody else----NOT divisive.

I don't think these so-called researchers have the slightest CLUE how many ASDers there are, in this country----too many of 'em are only lookin'-at KIDS.

As for the "tyranny" bit: NTs don't bother me----this NEW threat of oppression, DOES!

Yeah, that's true..... I absolutely LOVE way-down in VA (Charlottesville)----that's where I go camping----that's "country".

W.VA's good----especially "down-the-road", from Western MD (also very "country"), and the Ohio Valley.

PA's too expensive----they've got some good "country" areas, there, too, though.....

Are you KIDDING Me? PA, the Land of taxes, expensive? I might believe Filthydelphia and SH!tsburgh being expensive, but not the rest of the state (except maybe Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre). I spend more money when I cross the Mason-Dixon Line into MD.
